What you need to know this week:

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Tuesday released results of an analysis showing that 86% of South Carolina residents who contracted COVID-19 between July 16 and Aug. 15 were not fully vaccinated.

Similarly, of the 1,088 hospitalized patients during that time, 72% were not fully vaccinated.

Of the 67,469 cases reported by DHEC in that time period, health experts were able to determine vaccine status in 21,990 cases. 18,810 were not fully vaccinated.

A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their final vaccine dose.

Latest COVID-19 data

South Carolina health officials reported 5,152 total cases of COVID-19 Sept. 1, with 3,554 confirmed. A total of 86 new deaths, with 73 confirmed, were reported Tuesday, a dramatic increase compared to days prior.

With 29,217 tests reported, 17.3% were confirmed positive.
