The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) announced another 4,037 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 71 deaths related to the virus on Wednesday. With 13,052 tests reported today, 30.9% were positive.
The cumulative number of positive COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday was 306,204, with the state counting 5,139 total deaths during the pandemic.
Gov. Henry McMaster said DHEC “probably should be split” in a Tuesday session with reporters, The State reported. The governor did not, however, provide details for exactly what this would mean for the agency that employs more than 3,500 South Carolinians.
McMaster also announced that everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated in Phase 1A must get the first dose or make an appointment to do so by Jan. 15. According to the governor, those who fail to do so will “go to the back of the line.”
