After the statewide death toll surpassed 5,000 yesterday, an additional 15 deaths were reported on Monday. Out of 10,481 test results reported on Monday, 3,492 were positive.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine continues to be distributed throughout the state with 43,227 doses already administered from the 129,675 original doses received. The distribution rate of vaccines is about 33%, still significantly above the national average of 19%. This week, South Carolina began receiving a second round of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine with 16,575 additional doses reported by the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
In the Charleston tri-county area, the relative rate of cases lags other areas of the state. Charleston County’s 22,543 cases comes out to 5,479.5 per 100,000 people. For comparison, in the state’s highest-population county, Greenville, 39,457 positive cases mean 7,536.55 cases per 100,000 people.
Testing is still taking place in many accessible areas throughout the Lowcountry and the rest of the state.
