The Post and Courier will begin the process of moving staff out of its longtime headquarters at the corner of Columbus and King streets next month, the paper reported Monday. The move will allow the newspaper to finally vacate the valuable property its parent company, Evening Post Industries, has been redeveloping alongside the nondescript P&C offices for the better part of a decade.
The newspaper’s newsroom, advertising, marketing and circulation departments will take over space at 148 Williman St., in the Half Mile North development built by Raven Cliff Company.
“We are happy to welcome The Post and Courier to NoMo, a neighborhood which is evolving rapidly to meet the needs of a changing Charleston,” said Raven Cliff CEO Stephen Zoukis in a statement to the paper.
“NoMo” refers to the area’s position along northern Morrison Drive, a moniker foisted upon Charleston back in 2011 by City Paper staff, among others. For 10 years, Charleston City Paper‘s offices were nearby at Morrison Drive and Isabella Street until the paper relocated in 2016.
P&C‘s new 8,000-square foot office space was formerly occupied by ecommerce company Blue Acorn before it was acquired in 2019 and consolidated operations across the street at 145 Williman St., according to Michael Wooddy, a Raven Cliff partner.
Printing operations will also relocate from the paper’s Columbus Street complex to space at the World Trade Center development on Leeds Avenue in North Charleston. That facility is expected to be online by spring 2022.
Once P&C completes its move from 134 Columbus St., Evening Post Industries is planning to build four new buildings along Line, St. Philip and King streets currently occupied by the newspaper building and staff parking lot.
Initial plans for the area along Line and St. Philip include a senior living facility and a separate apartment complex. Two massive buildings have already been built along Meeting Street as part of Evening Post’s redevelopment: The Guild apartments and the new headquarters for Greystar Development.
