COVID-19 updates: South Carolina health officials reported 1,243 new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday, with 4 additional confirmed deaths.

With 8,991 tests reported Wednesday, 13.8% were positive.

As of 1:46 p.m. Nov. 25, via S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control:

Confirmed cases in S.C.: 197,652 (+1,243)
Positive tests in Charleston County (total): 18,512 (+96)
Negative tests in S.C.: 2,303,438
Deaths in S.C. from COVID-19: 4,015 (+4)

Charleston City Council approved a $356,976.19 project that will fund three COVID-19 vaccine shelters Tuesday. The city of Charleston will front the purchase and be reimbursed from the Healthcare Preparedness Program COVID-19 Grant. Charleston City Councilman Harry Griffin said he would lead an effort to make West Ashley its own town if a proposed tax hike is approved next year. The proposed tax increase would withhold a portion of residents’ property tax relief with the goal of helping Charleston recover from an $18 million budget shortfall. The city is planning to keep half of the local option sales tax money in order to prevent job cuts. Multiple councilmen and Mayor John Tecklenburg declined to comment on Griffin’s remarks, P&C reports. Source: P&C, WCBD
