5 ridonkulous watersports to pick up

1. Sailing. Just be way more careful than that Abby Sunderland girl — and get some lessons at the Charleston Sailing School on Lockwood Drive.

2. Kayaking. Sea Kayak Carolina on James Island offers classes and tours each month.

3. Kiteboarding. Who says human beings can’t fly? We sure can — for about 30 seconds at a time, especially with the help of Air in Mt. Pleasant.

4. Surfing. Hang 10 bro. Our favorite shop is McKevlin’s on Folly Beach.

5. Paddleboarding. For those of us too klutzy, too cowardly, or lacking the proper lingo for surfing. Charleston Watersport’s got ’em.

City Paper Editorial Staff

I’ve been reading Garden & Gun since the magazine launched in 2007. Most of our editorial staff has too. We love it and we love to hate it. The aspirational South G&G portrays is at once mesmerizing and maddening. Stories about finding new ways to use your heirloom silver, or how to “grab a frog like a Cajun” sometimes leave us wondering who on earth is living this life?

Walker: Take a closer look at Charleston’s budget priorities

The past year has left me and most of the people I know feeling upside down. Author Yuval Noah Harari wrote, in his latest book, “If you feel overwhelmed and confused by the global predicament, you are on the right track.” But from adversity comes opportunity. And I have had to remind myself that where […]
