You've heard it before and you better believe you'll hear it again — it's really, really important to buy local. Don't believe us? Well, now's a good time to start paying attention to where your dollars go. Starting today, Wed. Nov. 15, through Fri. Dec. 15, nonprofit Lowcountry Local First hosts their annual Buy Local month.

According to LLF, when you support locally owned businesses, 45 percent of your dollars stay within the community, as opposed to 14 percent when you buy from out-of-town businesses.

The premise is incredibly simple: Buy your holiday gifts from locally owned businesses. Easy enough right? LLF has made it even easier by offering both a rundown of upcoming holiday markets, as well as participating businesses, on their website.

For example, if you're looking for locally made clothing and accessories you can hit up Croghan's Jewel Box, Artisan Tees, and J. Stark. And for the most fun (we think) way to peruse a large number of local artisans and crafters, be sure to check out the overwhelming number of upcoming holiday markets — stay tuned for our full guide to holiday markets, hitting stands next week.

Until then, remember to put your money where your house is.
