We’ll admit that it’s easy to overlook the Flagship, Charleston’s downtown business incubator, as an art space. We’ve been to some excellent shows there before, by the likes of Christopher Murphy and Deborah Sisco, but it isn’t exactly a permanent part of our personal gallery tour. However, you shouldn’t miss this Thursday’s opening by mixed-media artist Xiao Xin Lu. Over the course of her career, she’s documented her journey from the East (China) to the West. “My family moved to the U.S. when I was 7, so I did not know much about Chinese history or my heritage,” she says. “This body of work is about my exploration into the past, especially the circumstances — i.e. China’s One Child Policy — surrounding my parents’ decision to immigrate to the U.S.”
