Re: “Charleston needs more contemporary buildings

The year is 2013 and the city is Charleston. Not 1813 or any other year. Not Athens or Rome. Arguments in favor of classical styles based solely on aesthetics are vain and dishonest to our location and time period. We want to lie to ourselves architecturally for the sake of tourism? That is what happens at Disney World, not cities that consider themselves legitimate. Charleston needs buildings that replicate its unique spatial qualities and urban fabric, not its superficial greek and roman styles. The proposed building in question does exactly that, and very well. The two options Charlestonians have are 1)To stop lying to ourselves and move forward or 2) Keep living in an antebellum Disney World.
