Re: “Rally for Charleston Birth Place today at 4:30

This situation is not just about the closing of a birth center. It's about a woman's right to choose how, where, and with whom she gives birth. In a time when we, as a nation, are seeking ways to lower c-section rates and have safer birthing statistics with better outcomes, birth centers should be praised for providing a much needed option for low risk pregnancies. This story will not go away until DHEC rights their wrong. It's terrible a baby died at the Fort Mill center, but babies die in the hospital, too, sometimes emergencies happen. The midwives at CBP are well trained to handle such situation and the best way for it to be dealt with is for them to be immediately taken to the hospital, not wait for a physician to arrive at the birth place to then come to the same conclusion as the midwives. DHEC needs to follow their own regulations and do a peer reviewed investigaton of the Fort Mill center and not burn all other centers at the stake.
