Weekend Round-Up: Calling all Spoletians

The best events in Charleston, May 25-27

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that today marks the official start of Spoleto Festival USA and its sister event, Piccolo Spoleto. Start your day bright and early with the opening ceremonies before taking in your fill of concert music, jazz, dance, theater, opera, and more over the next 17 days.

There are plenty of visual and performing arts offerings as part of the festivals — duh — but if you’re looking for something more off the grid, try TROM (Tin Roof Open Mic Comedy), God of Carnage, We Disagree With Your Color Theory and Geometric Principles, a meet-the-artist reception at Wasabi, and I Ate a Rainbow for Breakfast.

The bearded and mustachioed men of the Southeast will gather at the Music Farm for the 3rd Annual Southeastern Beard & Mustache Championship. Women are welcome to create their own facial hair too.

Love him or leave him, Guy Harvey, the man himself, will be taking pictures and signing autographs at the Palmetto Moons in Mt. Pleasant and North Charleston.

It’s Family Night at Blackbaud Stadium as the Battery play the L.A. Blues. There are RiverDogs games too, with the Melanoma Awareness Initiative taking over the Joe on Saturday.

The ladies of the Lowcountry HighRollers are proving that If You Can’t Play Nice, Play Roller Derby.

Any chance that Bill Murray will be at the Park Circle screening of his brother’s movie God Bless America? We can dream.

Middleton Place hosts Living History Days.

Hop on your Harley for the Ride for the Kids. Or if you’ve got a horse, take part in the Mullet Hall Open Trail Ride.

It’s National Beach Safety Week, so you’ll find safety demonstrations at IOP County Park, Kiawah Beachwalker Park, and the Folly Beach Fishing Pier.

ETV host Patrick McMillan will lead a talk and a Bull Island tour.

Suzy McGrane Memorial Party features performances by Five Way Friday and Gaslight Street, and the Royal Tinfoil has a show.

O-Ku brings its White Party back with drink and food specials and music from DJ Natty Heavy.

Show your Ben Sawyer Boulevard pride at the Summer Kickoff Block Party at Triangle.

And you know it’s officially summer when the Bud Light Lime Bikini Bash kicks off at the Windjammer.
