Makin' a splash

If you’ve never been out to Johns Island’s watersports park, Trophy Lakes, strap into some swimmies and head to this Saturday’s second ever Water Jam. The first ever Water Jam was just last month and it was unlike anything we’d been to in Charleston, with music, food, booze, and lots of water activities. Jack Sheffield, the guy behind Alligator Jack’s Fest and other Trophy Lakes-based events is excited about the turnout for the water fests, especially because each one supports a local charity, like this month’s Limbs Without Limits, a program that raises money for wounded warriors, amputees, and other work-related injury sufferers. Chef Ross Andrews of The Caterer (another Sheffield owned business) will be cooking up traditional fair food along with his soon-to-be-famous redneck spring rolls: barbecue, collard greens, and pimento cheese, deep-fried of course. Seewater and Big Yen will be providing the tunes and Sheffield hopes that the college-age bands and the student discount price will bring in a younger crowd to enjoy all that paddleboarding, helicopter rides, zip-line wakeboarding, and something called a “hydro-fly” has to offer.
