Water Ball

When: Thu., March 25 2010
Price: $50
It’s best to start participating in philanthropic activities at a very young age — especially since that kind of stuff looks great on college applications. Though we’re not trying to imply that’s the reason behind Wando High School’s One Love for Haiti benefit. The brainchild of a few of the school’s teachers, and with help from Awendaw Green, the event benefits Water Missions International and Doctors Without Borders. Several WHS clubs are pooling their resources to ensure that 100 percent of the proceeds from the event help the island nation; one organization even fronted money to make T-shirts, so that all the profits from their sale will go to the charities. The students are also helping out; they’re doing the publicity, recruiting talent, and will be in charge backstage the night of the show. Performers include Wando’s own Shane Skidmore (of the Makeshift), Joel Timmons (of Sol Driven Train), the Whisperjets, and the Wando Jazz Band. And no, you don’t have to be a teenager to attend. —Susan Cohen
