Wagener Terrace Oyster Roast and BBQ

When: Sun., Nov. 2, 4-7 p.m. 2008
Phone: (843) 216-9252
Price: $16/advance, $20/gate
For years, the Wagener Terrace Neighborhood Association has hosted annual oyster roasts in one of the most idyllic and overlooked locations on the peninsula — Lowndes Grove Plantation. No need to drive out to BFE to check out a place steeped in history — Lowndes Grove is right up Ashley Avenue. The plantation’s been through a lot in the last three centuries: the original house was burned by British troops, it served as a respite for a Congressman’s wife, it housed a private racetrack, and in the early 1900s, the extensive grounds were developed into the neighborhood of Wagener Terrace. More recently, the house was featured on the cover of O Magazine, and in 2007, it underwent a $6 million renovation by Patrick Properties. Now’s your chance to check out the refurbished property (outside only), and enjoy all-you-can-eat oysters, barbecue, and fixins to boot. Jamie Westendorf will be catering local food, while Porkchop Meyer will provide music. There will also be a silent auction. (Donations will be accepted in exchange for free tickets.) Proceeds from the event benefits the WT Neighborhood Association, which contributes to the beautification of the area along with select charities. Tickets are available at Moe’s Crosstown, Granville’s, and the In and Out convenience store on Rutledge Avenue. —Erica Jackson
