V-Day warning: make your plans now

It's almost too late

Dear novices. Next weekend marks the collision of SEWE and Valentine's Day, and that means the downtown restaurants are going to be packed with high-rolling redneck revelers and randy romantic Romeos all trying to get the best seat in the house.

If you haven't made your reservations yet, you better get moving. Currently, Open Table is showing only a small percentage of restaurants with available 7 p.m. seatings (for two). Plenty of dining rooms will be offering special menus, and some will even be opening that night for the first Sunday in their history (Lana Restaurant).

Over at Peninsula Grill, if you can't get a seat, you can always cozy up to the bar and take a swig of their special Cupid's Hunt cocktails — a Gentlemen Jack and Wild Turkey concoction for the guys and a white chocolate raspberry martini for the girls (not to be sexist or homophobic). Other than that, my suggestion is to do takeout from Ted's or just wait until Tuesday and celebrate Mardi Gras instead.
