Upper King Fall Design Walk

When: Thu., Oct. 15, 5:30-8 p.m. 2009
Phone: (843) 303-1113
Price: Free

While we don’t want to jump the gun, we have noticed that the previously-ailing Upper King district definitely seems to be seeing a revival. This week’s Upper King Design Walk includes several new stores, including Seeking Indigo in the old Putumayo spot, which is the site of a ribbon-cutting ceremony/event kick-off with Mayor Joe. Other newer spots to check out include Charleston Power Yoga, Sweet 185 Sugaring Studio and Organic Boutique, Butterfly Women’s Consignment Boutique, and Aster Hall Gallery.

The semi-annual Design Walk’s intent is to highlight local businesses. Stores, galleries, and restaurants along Upper King Street stay open late, inviting guests to share special sales, refreshments, and sometimes even gifts. A Cannon-Elliot Lounge, sponsored by Patterson Smith Company, will highlight this off-the-beaten-path district with a home and wedding theme, plus refreshments and music, at 45 John Street.

Local artists will show off their work, including Blue Bicycle Books co-owner Lauren Sanchez’ highly anticipated l_design handbag collection. Special event parking will be available at the Visitor Center Garage for $2, and free parking is available at Shine. Proceeds for this event benefit Darkness to Light, the Outreach Learning Center at St. Matthews, and The Charleston Ballet Theatre. —Caroline Eubanks
