Unveiling Ida Berman's Collection of Photographs: Life on Johns Island During the Civil Rights Era

Ida Berman was a celebrated photographer and immigrant known for her insights into American life and culture. This exhibit, presented by A Backpack Journalist, includes never-before-seen photos of places and scenes on Johns Island in January of 1959, including people working at The Progressive Club, as well as portraits of Esau Jenkins, Myles Horton, and other Modern Era/Civil Rights leaders. These photographs will be on display the entire month of January in the Main Library Lobby.
