We stand for Charleston
Local artists have come together once again to honor the families and victims of the Mother Emanuel tragedy. Chamber Music Charleston, Charlton Singleton, and the Jazz Artists of Charleston will be donating their music while poets Marjory Wentworth and Marcus Amaker will be donating their words. While this is a free event, the Charleston Response Project hopes that attendees will donate to the Rev. Pinckney Fund or the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund. Nathan Tucker will be conducting throughout the night with pieces such as “Summertime” by George Gershwin, “Walk Around Heaven” performed by Grace Ramsey, and a piece written by Jim Stephenson specifically for the event. Sandra Nikolajevs, the president and artistic director of Chamber Music Charleston, says that the musical tone for the night will be “reflective, but also joyous as we celebrate the lives of those who were lost and the strength of those left behind.” Their hope is to host this concert annually so as to continue to honor the victims in the years to come.
