It’s hard not to view this year’s election season as ludicrous and laughable, and that’s just what Slate, the online magazine, and The Second City, a Chicago-based theater company, have done with Unelectable You, an election-themed live comedy show. Featuring Second City performers and Slate writers and personalities, the show explores what it means to be electable. Second City director Matt Hovde says, “As countless runners up have learned, being qualified is not the same as being ‘electable.’ Unelectable You is a shout out to the fractured and confusing process we have of choosing a leader, as viewed through the lenses of Slate and Second City.” In a short clip of the performance you get an idea of the silly stage hijinks which involve a lot of dancing, tripping and falling, and wigs. You can look forward to bits like one performer calling a Bernie Sanders’ impersonator, “A socialist muppet,” along with a Hillary Clinton impersonator offering the whole audience hot sauce. —Connelly Hardaway
