UNED!TED Concert Series - USO Revival

When: Tue., Nov. 20, 6 p.m. 2012
Price: $20, $10/student
After rockin’ out with so many sweet bands at the City Paper Music Awards last week, we bet you’re craving even more tunes. Try something jazzy and vintage at UNED!TED’s USO revival, the second performance in the concert series. The Charleston Library Society will be jumpin’ with local musicians and dancers like Quentin Baxter, Jeremy Wolf, Richard White Jr., and chanteuse Laura Ball performing songs from the World War I and II eras. Old meets new at this event, as modern beats like Brazilian rhythms and hip-hop will come together with bebop and Ray Charles, bridging the generations with sounds old, young, and in between. “This concert series is interdisciplinary among art mediums. We’re trying to marry a lot of dance and music this year,” Ball says. In that spirit, before the show starts Dave Fuerte and the Charleston Swing Dancers will be on hand to teach you the lindy hop to the sounds of the V-Tones. There will be treats and sweets by Jay Yau and bourbon drinks from Brown Forman. You’ll also find all-natural soda pop by the paper-hatted boys of Cannonborough Beverage Co. Vintage dress is encouraged but not required, and military officers are encouraged to wear their dress uniforms.
