I was born and raised in Charleston and I have never associated my hometown with racism. Actually quite contrary, I grew up in West Ashley where blacks and whites lived side by side and went to school together. I remember as a child I didn't have enough money to buy something and a white man paid the difference. I've met many kind,caring and friendly white people when I lived in Charleston and when I retire I plan to return home permanently. I love my hometown.
