Re: “CCSD schools to open tomorrow, flood-impacted students to receive excused absences

To Anne K. The reason the schools were closed due to the cold weather was because we don't live in an area that gets that cold that often. There for the drivers are not experienced in ice road driving. As for closing the whole district, can you imagine the up roar on attendance requirements the parents would bring up when it comes to open schools vs closed schools? We have many school buses that drive up to 30 miles out from the school they are picking up for. The closing because of the flooding was a smart idea, even if you dont agree with it. Just imagine a school bus getting stuck on a flooded street and the bus washing away. After all 2 reported rescue vehicles had to be recovered and an experienced rescue worker died. We as bus drivers are no where near trained for that. You comparing us to Canada is a very poor example to show your point. When I lived in Colorado school would be at most on a 3 hr delay for snow, but that's because the DOT has equipment to handle it and the buses are equipped with chains and proper tires and driver training.

About time. It was just a waste of time.
