Never have I failed so miserably as when I tried to teach myself the dance from Michael Jackson’s "Thriller" in the 11th grade. It was frustrating, devastating even. I was convinced that nobody with a human body was capable of the complex performance; turns out I just wasn’t a very good dancer. But the folks in Thriller: A Monster Mashup — now those are dancers. Not only are they putting on "Thriller" in full zombie getup, but they’re adding a whole new layer of extraordinary, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The collaboration is a zombie-meets-tranny mash-up between Charleston Ballet Theatre, The Have Nots!, and What If? Productions. It’s also the first time Have Not Greg Tavares has taken on choreography. His debut dance production traces the back-story of the zombies from "Thriller," who get mixed up with Dr. Frankenfurter and his fleet from Rocky Horror. How the two stories collide is something you have to see to believe, according to Kyle Barnette, executive administrator of CBT. “Our version of Rocky Horror has been a big hit for the past four years,” he says. “Since zombies are hot right now, it seemed like a good mix.”
