Three sisters — Mary Connor, Beth Lee, and Priscilla Coleman — created Three Sisters Farm on family land in Beaufort County’s Calhoun Plantation. The entire property is in a conservation easement, so planting a farm seemed like a natural way to use the acreage. Three Sisters Farm is certified organic, growing a wide variety of gourmet vegetables and herbs like romanesco cauliflower, lemongrass, and yellow wax beans. They sell to Red Fish and Alexander’s Restaurant on Hilton Head, run a small CSA, and have booths at Port Royal, Hilton Head’s Honey Horn, and Bluffton farmers markets. People appreciate what the three sisters do, and it makes their work feel worthwhile. Charlestonians may be unable to find their products around the area, but every February, 10 acres of land at the Calhoun Plantation bloom with daffodils, and they are open to the public. The blooming of the daffodils has already passed, but you can still find a variety of flowers and vegetables from the farm.
