Thief takes $60,000 in sunglasses

Hundreds of expensive pairs nabbed in store break-in

A unknown thief stole nearly 300 pairs of sunglasses from a downtown shop over the weekend. The stash was valued at nearly $60,000, according to the Charleston Police Department.

The stolen glasses included 104 pairs of Ray-Bans, 70 D&Gs, 53 Pradas, 39 Versaces, & 29 Oakleys. The burglar also took approximately $1,000 in cash from the register.

Orr Cohen, an employee at the Meeting St. Sunglass Hut, reported the theft and damage to the front door Saturday, according to police. Cohen said employees closed up for the evening as usual on Friday night, with the register locked up and the key to the register stashed away, according to the police report.

Responding Officer A. Wilson discovered the key in the register when he arrived at the scene, with the register unlocked. There was no video of the incident.
