Re: “Carrie Mae Weems' Grace Notes: Reflections for Now explores the evolution of human rights

Yes, Grace Notes was intriguing in the beginning and it had its intermittences of engagement, but it left you hanging in too much thought and in question of the author/playwright's message or intent...the format of the project was sooo farfetched that you got lossed in the silence and emptiness of the black stage with a tree and two windows. That's the problem, we have been silence and silent too long. We are visual creatures. We welcome and enjoy the messages that are portrayed in art, but this was not it; even in the abstract the message could have been clearer. I read the intro prior to attending, expecting an acapella trio captivating us in song on an historical journey, engaging all of our senses, but my understanding was missed conceived.
The abstract and the sparcity of it all, unfortunately, left us wanting our money back..and the "N" word joke segment was offensive to my group.

The meaning of a "Grace Notes" is that it happens so fast that it becomes nonessential or insignificant in the full composition which is not true for African-American History. We are a rich and diverse culture of people with great significance. Yes, we deserve a platform to release and relate to the world at large. Our true message should never be lossed in methodology. It should be distinct, defined and delivered in verse, music, song, dance, multi-media and performance gestures. Amplifying how we managed to gracefully embrace this life's journey with every struggle, set-back or disappointment by developing out of necessity our gifting and callings as the mother of inventions. Our life is not ANTI or GONE, it is here to stay and it matters in all aspects of life. It should/must be displayed and clearly realized for all to see, hear and feel. Not downplayed.

It also appeared that that steppers was an afterthought, although they were very good....

No answer was offered in Grace Notes, but NO should never be the answer...as conveyed!
