The holiday weekend started on Thursday morning with the 29th annual Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble . At 9 a.m., runners began the 5K run/walk through downtown Charleston. The race, open to all serious and family-oriented participants, had some costumed competitors going all out in the spirit of the holiday. This year over 4,000 people completed the course, which starts at Calhoun and Meeting streets, travels down to the Battery and back up King Street to end at Marion Square.
Thursday evening at the Village Tavern , Ted Leo and the Pharmacists were celebrating Thanksgiving before taking the stage that night. Opening for them were the Vague Angels from NYC along with former Charleston resident Owen Beverly . Check out T. Ballard Lesemann’s review of the show on the City Paper’s blog.
At the Exchange Park, over a thousand motorcycles began their 48-mile ride for charity on Sunday afternoon. The 29th annual Lowcountry ABATE Toy Run benefiting the Salvation Army made its way down I-26, over the Cooper River bridge, up to I-526 and back over to Ladson where riders partied all afternoon to live music at the fairgrounds.
