THE SCENE

p>On Tuesday, bartenders from across the city helped launch Stoli Blueberi with a competition of original drink recipes. Winners included Ginger Marchand of the downtown Wild Wing for her Blue Apple Punch, Dennis Ward of Water's Edge for his Blueberi SweetTart, and Kelly Clupper of High Cotton for her Cobbler Martini.

The final curtain fell Thursday night on the spring 2006 Movies in Marion Square series; however, I hear a family-oriented fall line-up is in store. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, the opening of Human Architecture took place at Vickery's downtown, where the participating artists created a collaborative mural in the courtyard of the restaurant. Civic-minded folks gathered in the Coastal Community Foundation's office on Friday afternoon to toast outgoing executive director Madeline McGee, who has been instrumental in growing the scope and impact of the foundation during her 10-year tenure.

A number of Piccolo Spoleto's visual arts exhibitions opened on Saturday night. To read more about these events, visit spoletoscene.blogspot.com. "A Night of Gratitude," a benefit fund-raiser for orphans of AIDS, took place at the College of Charleston's Stern Center on Sunday evening. Eleven of the city's best chefs dished up tantalizing bites of cuisine while Jimmy Brogan, former producer and head writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, warmed up the crowd. Award-winning journalist and author of What Will Become of Africa's AIDS Orphans? Melissa Fay Greene shared her insight into the orphans' plight, and donations were collected at the end of the evening.
