Satchmo's, the new jazz club with a cosmopolitan attitude, was the place to be last week. Located on the peninsula and off the beaten path at 28 Isabella St., this urban oasis offers the smooth sounds of Neo Soul on Wednesdays and live jazz on Thursdays, both of which are a wonderful alternative to mainstream happy hour. Also paying homage to the late, great Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong was The Lost Wandering Blues Band, whose impromptu performance on the corner of Calhoun and King streets last Wednesday afternoon attracted loads of attention.

Once considered the ride of choice by outlaws far and wide, motorcycles have become a mainstream obsession and the chosen way of life for many. On Sunday, members of ABATE (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments) gathered at Richard's Bar and Grill in Mt. Pleasant for their fifth annual oyster roast. The sound of approaching motorcycles howled throughout the blustery afternoon as more and more folks arrived, and the endless procession of polished chrome was blinding. The good-natured crowd, replete with leather chaps and insight on upcoming legislation with a bearing on the biker community, enjoyed freshly steamed oysters from Bulls Bay and live music courtesy of DJ Tom.
