After patrons went crazy for their production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein — our readers voted it the Best Non-Piccolo or Spoleto Show of 2014 — Charleston Stage decided to keep the laughter coming this season with another Mel Brooks masterpiece, The Producers. Maybe you’re wondering why you should venture out to see this show. Maybe you think that once you’ve seen the movie or the Broadway production, you’ve seen it all. Charleston Stage’s Marybeth Clark, who is directing the show, would beg to differ. “Our goal is always to bring our own spin to productions, not try and copy the Broadway show,” she says. “It’s a great chance for the ‘I don’t like musicals’ types to experience the fun of Mel Brooks in a format that makes it even better.” —Kaleb Eisele
