Iran's navy doesn't have blue water capabilities. They have ships and submarines, but none that can travel the distance required to reach the US. Plus their vessels don't have the ability to launch ballistic missiles. They have a few frigates, small diesel powered submarines and a some corvette patrol boats, but that's about it.
I think the real danger with this is the possibility of a nuclear arms race. If Iran develops atomic weapons, then how long will it be before Saudi Arabia, Egypt or Iraq decides that they need to have them as a deterrent?
