The Cru Catering crew hosts a street food shindig

Cru Catering welcomed local industry folk to their headquarters up in B.F.E. on Wednesday night. After taking some wrong turns, we knew we’d found the place when we spotted a few swanky classic cars parked outside a building with open doors.

We were welcomed at the door with a glass of champagne, then made our way back to the spacious kitchen where staffers shoveled out tasty street food like mustard-rubbed lamb gyros with all the fixin’s, red chile braised chicken tamales, and Vietnamese pho. Chefs could barely keep the crowd supplied with enough antojitos de esquites — corn with cheese, lime, and aioli served from a coconut shell — or “chicken & waffles” — small bits of fried chicken served in a miniature waffle cone.

A full bar was supplied, but the main attraction was the candy-colored alcoholic snowcones. The Bluestone Ramblers played bluegrass in the corner while Cru family and fans shmoozed and stuffed their faces ’til they could stuff no more.
