A Piccolo Fringe event. Pushing the envelopes of dance, music, physical theater, and intellectually nonderivative high concept comedy with their latest new work, The Cody Rivers Show delivers unique shows unlike any other comedy act, past or present. (1 hr.)

The Buzz:

WHAT IS IT? A dynamic duo with a knack for the hilarious — expect anything and everything including slapstick, miming, stand-up, and good old-fashioned storytelling. The pace is brisk — you might call it Comic Theater of Sweat — so a whole lot of funny gets packed into this show.

WHY SEE IT? This performance group is scoring rave reviews wherever it unpacks its socks. Charleston is no exception. Last year’s performances were among the highlights of the Spoleto season, and that includes all Spoleto Festival USA events, too. This is sketch comedy with method to its madness. City Paper described last year’s performance like this: “Imagine free-falling through an atmosphere of people, places, and situations while laughing gas pumps in your veins. This summarizes The Cody Rivers Show’s uncanny ability to recite vast amounts of seemingly irrelevant information and link it into a montage of hilarious stories. It showers the audience with spasmodic vignettes that combine dance, song, and dialogue. It flaps like a pair of frenzied wings, spilling anecdotes and interchangeable characters over the crowd.”

WHO SHOULD GO? Anyone who needs to loosen up and laugh for awhile would be well-advised to attend. (Jason A. Zwiker)
