The Charitable Society of Charleston’s Annual Oyster Roast

When: Sat., Feb. 2, 7-11 p.m. 2013
Price: $25/advance, $35/door
With all the oyster roasts going on this winter, you’d think we’d be tired of those slimy little things by now — but we’re not even getting close. Especially when we get to eat them for a good cause, like at this weekend’s Charitable Society of Charleston Oyster Roast. Proceeds from the roast will benefit Louie’s Kids, a Charleston-based national nonprofit that fights against childhood obesity. “Eighty percent of all overweight teens will become overweight adults, and we think they deserve help,” says founder Louis Yuhasz. Louie’s Kids uses the internet to provide behavioral therapy to children across the nation, helping them shed pounds and grow healthier. Oyster roast staples like hot dogs and chili will be available, as will multiple options for beer and wine. After eating and drinking your fill, dance away those excess calories to the sounds of Ben Carson and the Depressions.
