A heartwarming brothel bash. A hit since its 1978 debut, this is an all-singing, all-dancing tale of a cathouse's struggles to stay open when opposed by an intolerant TV reporter. Best known for its movie adaptation with Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas blends strong musical moments with risqué clothing and a smattering of adult language.

Not for kids. Duh. According to Footlight Players' Executive Director Jocelyn Edwards, Whorehouse is for adults only. "It's a racy play," she says. "The Post and Courier wrote that it's a PG, but it's not. It's rated R because of the subject matter." Beyond the titillating trimmings, there are catchy numbers like "The Aggie Song," "The Sidestep," and "Hard Candy Christmas."

A tolerant ho show. Footlight vets Robbie Thomas and Bob Ivey co-direct the musical, which Edwards says has "something for everybody over 18" with its devilish humor and careful attention to choreography. There's a reason the show's survived for over 30 years — its universal theme of accepting people for who they are, not judging them by what they seem to be.
