It’s a bibliophile’s dream: an auditorium brimming with books — best-sellers and mysteries and self-help guides and maybe even a rarity or two. The Charleston Friends of the Library’s seasonal sale takes place this weekend at the Charleston County Main Library. The goods are cheap — so cheap, in fact, that you could spend 20 bucks and get enough reading material for a year. Paperbacks start at $1, hardcovers at $3, and children’s books at 50 cents. There will also be CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassettes, and other forms of media. The sale begins Thursday night with a special head start for the group’s members (and you can join at the door if you want in on the action). It continues through Sunday, when there will be discounted pricing. Friends Director Lauren Gellatly says the library, which recently had to cut down its hours, needs our help now more than ever. She says the sale is a great way to pick up cheap reads, a chance to give a book a second life, and a green way to shop. Start that personal library that you always wanted to show off to your friends, or keep your kids occupied as they transition from Tigger to Twilight to Tolstoy. —Susan Cohen
