That Big Book Sale is the event of the year for bookworms — kind of like Spoleto or Fashion Week is for some folks. Does that seem like an exaggeration? You won’t think so if you’ve got the love of libros in your heart.

Hosted by the Friends of the Charleston County Library, That Big Book Sale fills the basement of the Gaillard with tables full of books — shiny new ones, musty vintage ones, and almost all of them between $1-$3. You’ll find fiction, children’s books, cookbooks, travel books, and coffee table books along with DVDs and CDs. The selection will be restocked throughout the weekend. Altogether, over 60,000 items will be for sale, so we’d say chances are good you’ll find something you like. In fact, at these prices, you can fill out your bookshelf for about 20 bucks.

If you’re a Friend of the Library, or you’d like to join at the door for $35, you can attend the Celebrating Friends preview event from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thurs. Oct. 8. Get a first look at the offerings while enjoying wine, hors d’oeuvres, and music from Shrimp City Slim. Whenever you go, make sure to bring cash and your own bags to help conserve resources. —Erica Jackson
