Re: “The NAACP condemns Tea Party, ignores Godwin's Law

The South Carolina Republican Party was born out of the fight to prevent the integration of South Carolina's public schools. Before South Carolina was ordered by the federal courts to integrate its public schools, there was not a viable "Republican Party" in South Carolina. The election of House and Senate members was determined by the Democratic primary because there was no Republican opposition in the fall. The father of the South Carolina Republican Party, Carroll Campbell, jump started his political career and enhanced his popularity with white voters when he led an anti-busing march from Greenville to Columbia in the early 1970's. The South Carolina Republican Party has always been racist, and with the help of Lee Atwater developed a language that delivered the message to white voters without using language that would be obviously offensive. Once the party joined the anti-abortion movement it had two issues that have kept them in power. What is really ironic is that the white working people of South Carolina continue to elect Republicans who look after the special interests and do nothing to help the average citizen in South Carolina.
