Ted’s celebrates five years of gastronomy

Gourmands lined up outside of Ted’s Butcherblock on Saturday afternoon to feast and fête in honor of the renowned neighborhood butcher shop and gourmet market’s fifth anniversary. Inside, epicureans were invited to indulge their taste buds on scrumptious hors d’oeuvres like slices of marbled pate, Polish sausage morsels encased in soufflé, and Spanish romesco dip. The hands-down best nibble was succulent filet mignon served in bite-sized slices, prepared nearly rare and infused with peppery spices.

Food and beverage choices were built around the theme Air, Land and Sea. A selection of international wines and craft beer were waiting to quench thirst. For those with a carnivorous appetite, full dinner plates replete with roasted pork and grilled chicken were available for a fee — but good luck digging into the meat with the pliant plastic forks.

Owner Ted Dombrowski explained, “I have [a party] every year for our anniversary, and I knew the fifth year was going to be bigger.” Sure enough, the party outgrew the shop, overflowing into the patio out back where affable gastronomes, including quite a few babies and a dog or two, took a seat at one of many picnic tables. The Bushels added to the unfussy fun, playing live bluegrass-style music — including an impressive cover of M.J.’s “Billie Jean.”

Eric Foster, who was in charge of shucking oysters outside, declared the turnout “fantastic,” and Dombrowski, surveying the celebration taking place around him, affirmed, “It’s a beautiful day. Everybody loves the band, and there’s great food. It’s fun.”
