Tease It Out

When: Aug. 8-Sept. 27 2014
Price: Free
Whether it’s reminiscing about summer camp or watching cartoons every Saturday morning as a kid, all of us have memories that we look back on. Sometimes that simply isn’t enough. San Francisco artists Kate Nartker and Katey Crews understand exactly how you feel. They tackle nostalgia in their artwork through different mediums, such as photography, fiber arts, video, sculptures, and weavings. Redux Executive Director Stacy Huggins is fascinated by the styles of both artists and how they portray the theme of nostalgia in their exhibit Tease It Out. “Kate uses material from old family film that was taken by her father, pulls still images from the film, and then layers them to create reminiscent images of family that can be relatable to anyone,” Huggins says. “Katey portrays nostalgia on a macro level with images of iconic political figures like Lincoln and Nixon, and national imagery and propaganda that is also relevant to most.” Cavalcade of Color, an exhibit by street artist Patch Whisky and graphic designer Justin Runfola, will open concurrently with Tease It Out in the Conolly Gallery of Redux. Before the opening of the exhibits, there will be an artist talk at 6 p.m. followed by the opening reception where food and beverages will be available for purchase from Zombie Bob’s Pizza and beer from Holy City Brewing, along with live music from Nick Jenkins
