Re: “Let's Invade Saudi Arabia

Let's not forget another compelling reason: huge oil reserves. Sarcasm aside, we have supported that dictatorship and others like it in order to gain influence in the region. We provide security, and they allow us to 'influence' their voice at OPEC. Several generations of people living under these dictatorships have learned to hate Americans because their oppressors are acting under the protection of the United States. They see the United States as the oppressor's master. And they are right! Our CIA and State Department funded and trained dictators and terrorists, creating the problems we have now. Horrible repression and torture have been carried out in our name, with our money. Continuation of this short-sighted strategy will only gain the eternal enmity of the people in the region and motivate further attacks against us. We will be better served by adopting a foreign policy that respects human rights and reflects the morality of Americans, not of the most despised dictators in history. Let's hope the American people wake up to this reality before the empire crumbles and our government turns the machinery of oppression inward against the citizenry. This is the kind of knowledge that informs Ron Paul. I doubt whether any other candidate would even acknowledge the hard facts of the matter, let alone entertain a morally supportable solution.
