Taste of Folly

When: Sat., Jan. 25, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. 2014
Downtown usually gets all the foodie attention. We know, the food is pretty spectacular, but it also makes it easy to overlook the surrounding areas offerings. Taste of Folly wants to bring some attention to their food scene — of course, they’re doing it in true Folly fashion. On Friday night, a cocktail contest will have bartenders making signature cocktails using Blackheart Spiced Rum, and guests can taste and vote for their faves while Les Racquet and the Louie D Project provide some music at Blu. Saturday will have the typical Folly setup with Center Street closed to traffic and vendors hawking their goods, eats, and drinks. “Taste of Folly is different from the other festivals [since] we have some really fun events planned, not just your basic music street festival,” event organizer Lewis Dodson says. “A lot of people like the date auction and silent auction to pick up some great Folly gear, but my favorites are the chili cook-off where you can usually taste 10 to 20 different chili recipes for only $5, and the hotdog-eating contest which is always good for a laugh ... We also feature a Server Olympics where Folly’s waitstaff competes against each other in an obstacle course to win a Fat Tire Bike.” If you want to compete in the hot dog eating contest, visit, and for the chili cook-off just send an email to
