What’s the difference between ballroom tango and Argentine tango? For one, Argentine tango is much more intimate. It is mostly based off of improvisation, whereas ballroom has a fixed style and is standardized for competition. Argentine also contains more diversity in the steps, allowing it to more easily fit with the music in Argentina. The Argentine tango has the couple in a very close embrace while their hips are apart; Ballroom has couples dance with their chests apart with their hips close together. We could spout everything else that makes these two styles so different with all of the technical jargon that Wikipedia provides us, but in the end, you just have to see for yourself.

Vista Ballroom, hailing from Columbia, is more than eager to give you an authentic Argentine experience. Producer and Co-Artistic Director Erin Bolshakov presents Tango Dream, Argentine Tango Show. She and her partner, Harby Gonzalez, have set up a fantastic show featuring themselves and four other dancers: Stephen Rozier and Brandie Rozier, Orlando Farias and Fernanda Carjide. Adding to the Argentine flavor are Octavio Brunetti and the Octavio Brunetti Orchestra, and vocalist Claudia Gargiulo. —Christina Janke
