JAC and CJO start season with a big band showcase

Tickets are already on sale for the Jazz Artists of Charleston and Charleston Jazz Orchestra's upcoming 2010 concerts at the Charleston Music Hall (37 John St.). The kick-off concert is scheduled for Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. with the CJO's Swing, Swing, Swing program, led by conductor and trumpeter Charlton Singleton.

The title refers to the big band classic "Sing, Sing, Sing" originally penned by singer Louis Prima and made famous by the Benny Goodman Orchestra, thanks to the rumbling, syncopated drum beats of Gene Krupa

"Charlton is raring to go and wanted to start the band's 2010 season with a repertoire that has elements of the ensemble's success in its inaugural year — swinging melodies and rhythms, new and familiar tunes and strong vocals that can drive a band of CJO's size," says JAC president Leah Suarez, who plans to sing on several tunes in Swing, Swing, Swing.

Tickets are on sale for $30 (adult), $25 (seniors), and $20 (students). Discounted season passes are available, too. Visit jazzartistsofcharleston.org and charlestonmusichall.com for more.
