Re: “Blondie the horse's accident raises moral questions about the carriage tour industry

This whole dialogue has gotten so far off track... isn't it simple, common sense, that in this day and age, horses needn't be placed in harm's way, pulling carriages on slippery blacktop amid construction activity, emergency vehicles, and heavy traffic.

Re: “Blondie the horse's accident raises moral questions about the carriage tour industry

Paul,

Thank you so much for bringing attention to how we think about 'equine ethics' in this article about Blondie. As I lifelong horsewoman I believe our horses deserve so much more than a life on hot, city streets in traffic. Anyone who claims to love a horse, or view the horse as his/her partner would never choose to place their 'loved' animal in such a dangerous, unnatural environment. Furthermore, not only are Carriage Horses in danger when working, but in most cases when they are no longer useful they are sent to slaughter. Here is a feature I did on a NYC Carriage Horse 'Bobby II Freedom' who was rescued from a kill pen after years of service. https://youtu.be/guEdvVi4i1M?list=PLiNiSsWMrHrOfpE9TASEspKMOjNvUIvWa

With appreciation, Susan.
