Ever wanted to say you knew somebody before they made it big? Here’s your chance. Starting July 21, Redux Contemporary Art Center will host a week-long visual art exhibition created by a crew of specially picked Charleston County high school students. These kids were chosen based on applications, and they participated in three weeks worth of training in painting, printmaking, and photography. Through the program, students get to experience visual art instruction beyond the average high school art class, learning how to work with other students to develop a professional exhibit and creating a portfolio to carry with them into college. “I encourage the public to attend so they can support local youth,” says Janie Askew, Redux’s executive director. “It is amazing to see what students can do when they are provided the opportunity, enthusiasm, and materials to pursue a life in the arts.” Pretty cool, right? Yeah, we thought so, too. Even better, the exhibition is free and open to the public.
