Starlight Cinema Series starts June 2 

Freshfields Village screens films on the green

Summer nights are perfect for an outdoor movie in the grass curled up with a blanket and your favorite snacks. Freshfields Village host Starlight Cinema, a free movie screening every Wednesday night throughout June, starting tomorrow, on their Village Green.

The event begins Wed., June 2 at 9 p.m. with Secondhand Lions. This comedic, family film is about a young boy who is sent to spend the summer with his crazy uncles.

On June 9 is The Karate Kid. The film is a nostalgic for most of us who grew up in the '80s and '90s. When the new kid on the block is bullied by other kids, he finds a mentor in his apartment complex who teaches him how to rise above adversity through fighting techniques and self-confidence.

Meet the Robinsons screens on June 16, a Walt Disney cartoon about a brilliant inventor, Lewis, and a new mysterious friend, Wilbur Robinson. The two boys travel by time machine to team up against Bowler Hat Guy with an unexpected ending.

June 23 brings Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, a family film about Larry Daley, the security guard, joining other figures at the museum to rescue Jedediah and Octavius who have been sent to the museum by mistake.

And Up, the Disney-Pixar film about a 78-year-old man who is set to fulfill his dream of traveling to South America by tying thousands of balloons to his house, will play June 30. Not long after he takes off, with the ground far below him, Carl realizes he is not alone as he discovers a couple of stowaways.

All the films are family friendly with PG ratings.
