Re: “Local food lovers will miss Piggly Wiggly

Don't worry, i don't need an education on reality. I never said it was "new". I am very well aware that "organic" is synonymous with the way it always used to be. However, mass food production, factory farms, GMOs, heavily processed and artificial foods that can hardly be called "food", hydrogenated fats, fast foods, etc, etc, etc, became the norm over a course of decades. Now people are looking at the state of our health and waking up to what we have done to ourselves. Making good food choices like this meant moving away from what has become the standard American diet and seeking out foods that are closer to the natural state that they are meant to be in. That means using words like whole, organic, non-GMO, healthy fats, etc to differentiate from what we have come used to eating. As I have moved my family back into this direction, I unfortunately discovered that the Pig is not a place where I can find many of the things I am looking for. That's too bad because it is by far the closest grocery store to my home and I am ALL about going local. They didn't move quickly enough to move back into ways that would have cornered a significant share of the market, and that is a shame.

Re: “Local food lovers will miss Piggly Wiggly

I have one observation. In a world where more and more people are being health-conscious and steering more towards whole, unprocessed foods, Piggly Wiggly is the only major grocer around where I knew I could not find a good selection of naturals and organics. By sticking primarily to the old standard American diet-style foods, they lost the chance to corner an important portion of today's market, and I imagine that didn't help them much. Just my opinion.
