Rosanna Krekel, regional director of the Holy City branch of Fashion Group International, understands that while plenty of Charlestonians may love fashion, they can’t necessarily make it to the most prestigious international shows. So for the FGI event, she wanted to give local fashionistas a chance to get a look at what the other cities had to offer. “If you can’t get to Paris and you can’t get to Milan and you can’t get to New York, we’ve taken the best of all of that, and you feel like you’re seeing it,” Krekel says. FGI has taken footage of fashion weeks in New York, Paris, London, and Milan, featuring Spring/Summer 2011 collections from designers from Armani to up-and-comers, and edited down into a video presentation. The night will start with a cocktail hour and networking opportunity with heavy hors d’oeuvres. After the presentation, Krekel will lead a discussion with a variety of panelists: Taylor Ware (director of Louis Vuitton), Mary Norton (MooRoo Handbags), and Laura Mercier makeup artist Jodi Riley (fresh from the Golden Globes). They’ll talk about what you can do with the fashions just presented and how you can incorporate trends into your own style. As a former publisher of Life & Style and former beauty and fashion director of Glamour, Krekel will moderate the panel. She’ll start things off with a few questions and then open the floor. Guests will be given packets with bios of the speakers, info about the Fashion Group and how to join, and a wrap-up of all the ready-to-wear collections by fashion journalist Mary Lou Luther, so you can take what you learned back home with you. Krekel says the event can appeal to anyone interested in the many areas of design, like fashion, jewelry, interior, and more. “We are bringing the largest international fashion organization to our city and creating our very own chapter of it,” she says. “I feel like in terms of building a industry in our city, anybody who wants to be a part of that should be there.” For more info, e-mail
