Phone: (866) 811-4111

TRIBUTE TO SPOLETO FOUNDER. Not only did Gian Carlo Menotti bring Spoleto Festival to Charleston, he composed many important pieces during the 20th century. To mark his 100th birthday, the Piccolo Spoleto Orchestra will play music from The Consul, The Telephone, and Amahl and the Night Visitors.

SPARK OF GENIUS. Piccolo Spoleto's executive director Ellen Dressler Moryl says it's extremely significant for both Piccolo and Spoleto to pay their respects to this man. "Gian Carlo Menotti's artistic (and marketing) genius certainly sparked a great arts renaissance in South Carolina when he chose Charleston as the site for his USA counterpart to Spoleto Festival in Italy," she says.

TRANSFORMATIVE INFLUENCE. Even though Menotti left Spoleto USA in a contentious split back in the '90s, his influence is beyond measure. Moryl credits him with transforming the course of the arts and cultural identity of the entire state — no small feat. This concert should conjure up fond memories for Spoleto old-timers.
